INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS
A challenge for many young people is bridging the gap between school and work. Schools programmes like Gateway can help.
The Retail Institute is offering three programmes for schools in 2010:
- The Customer Service Award
- Selling Skills
- Managing Yourself
Students must be in a retail work placement for at least 12 days over a period of weeks to gain the required verifications and experience to successfully complete these programme. Once completed, students will have NCEA compatible units and in the case of the Customer Service Award, students will also be rewarded with a certificate endorsed by the Retail Institute for their portfolio or CV.
The Customer Service Award
This certificate covers the essentials in customer service, including communication skills, personal presentation, product knowledge and team work.
With these skills being identified by the industry as essential for the retail workplace, they make an ideal skill set to offer students who are looking at retail as an option.
The Customer Service Award offers:
- Set menu
- 25 credits
- Credits can be used towards the National Certificate in Retail (Level 2)
Selling Skills
This module is from the National Certificate in Retail (Level 2) it covers the essentials in customers buying motives, selling, creating displays and presenting good for sale.
Selling Skills offers:
- Set menu
- 13 credits
- Credits can be used towards the National Certificate in Retail (Level 2)
Managing Yourself
This module is from the Retail Modern Apprenticeship and covers three topics: managing your own learning, solving problems and coping with change. The student will develop skills and techniques that will help them in their job and personal life, now and in the future.
Managing Yourself offers:
- Set menu
- 7 credits
- Credits can be used towards the Retail Modern Apprenticeship
