Just the Job - Retail Buyer

Nick Bunge finds out what it is like it be a retail buyer from Wade Hawkins who has spent 18 years influencing what Barkers customers wear.

The role of a retail buyer is varied and Nick discovers that a lot of Wade's work involves travelling overseas to research the latest trends. On his return, these trends are interpreted and adapted for the local market.

Another large part of Wade's role is keeping stock moving throughout the stores and Nick gets an insight into how stock is tracked and distributed.

With fashion an ever changing industry, a career as a retail buyer for a clothing store is never dull.

Hamish started as a part time salesperson. He was promoted to third In charge and then second in charge and now he is a manager, all in the space of nine months! Hamish is currently working towards a Retail Modern Apprenticeship.
