Nominations open for Retail Modern Apprentice of the Year 2011
07 June 2011
Retail Institute recognises the hard work Retail Apprentices have put into developing a career in retail through the Retail Modern Apprentice of the Year competition.
Over the next few days our apprentices, their employers and coordinators will each receive a nomination form. Nominations can be made by the apprentice, their employer, their colleagues and their coordinators.
Nominations close on the 15th of July 2011. All current Retail Modern Apprentices and anyone who has completed their apprenticeship after 1st of September 2010 is eligible to enter.
Once all nominations have been received, three regional finalists are selected from each New Zealand region: Upper North Island, Lower North Island and South Island. Finalists must then submit a profile form and are mystery shopped by Market Pulse International. A judging panel then selects the regional winners, from which the overall Retail Modern Apprentice of the Year 2011 will be selected.
The overall Retail Modern Apprentice of the Year 2011 will receive an Outward Bound learning experience and the notable title. All regional winners will receive a Samsung Full HD Ultra-Compact Movie Camera HMX-U10.
The Awards are usually held in conjunction with the New Zealand Retailers Association (NZRA) Top Shop Awards. However the Top Shop Awards are a bi-annual event and will not be held in 2011. Therefore we will be recognising the regional winners and overall Retail Modern Apprentice of the Year through a number of different media sources.
Last year’s Retail Modern Apprentice of the Year was Michaela Harrington from Ballantynes Timaru. Michaela was the only finalist to get 100% in the mystery shopping section of the award process.
Michaela is enjoying finishing off the Retail Modern Apprenticeship and believes it has boosted her confidence. ‘The apprenticeship has truly helped me become a better salesperson. I am more confident, organised and I really understand the brands I am in charge of.’ Her assistant manager Fiona Stevens agrees, ‘Michaela is organised and pro-active…her work ethic is consistent and customers commend her efforts.’
