BICYCLE SALES AND SERVICING MODERN APPRENTICESHIPS
The cycle retail and wholesale industry in New Zealand is a dynamic specialist trade sector, which requires specialist skills and knowledge.
The Retail Institute can help you build a skilled and knowledgeable team of staff with the Bicycle Sales and Servicing Modern Apprenticeship, a training and development programme for young people to kick start their career in the cycle retail sector and develop real skills they can apply in their day to day jobs.
The Bicycle Sales and Servicing Modern Apprenticeship has been developed by the Retail Institute in consultation with industry and the Bicycle Industry Association of New Zealand (BIANZ) to create the most effective and efficient tool for training your young staff and to ensure the retail leaders of tomorrow can offer a high standard of skills and knowledge to the industry.
Skills and Qualifications
In order to complete the Modern Apprenticeship, the Modern Apprentice must complete 156 credits composed of set unit standards covering various retail skills and knowledge, some optional unit standards that focus on self-development and literacy, and technical unit standards in cycle mechanics.
Learners achieve:
- National Certificate in Retail Level 2
- National Certificate in Retail Level 3 (Bicycle Sales and Servicing)
- Completion of Bicycle Sales and Servicing Modern Apprenticeship Certificate

Who is suitable:
The Bicycle Sales and Servicing Modern Apprenticeship is open to promising staff from the ages of 16 – 21, and is a three year, NZQA accredited programme developing young people into supervisors and managers. By working through unit standards at NZQA level 2 and 3, a Bicycle Sales and Servicing Modern Apprentice gains a qualification and both practical and theoretical skills in bicycle mechanics, sales and a range of retail skills.
