DISTRIBUTION MODERN APPRENTICESHIPS
The Distribution industry employs 112,800 people and generates over $15,000,000 for the New Zealand economy annually. As well as being a major industry in itself, distribution and wholesale companies are essential to the success of thousands of retail businesses nationwide.
A successful distribution company ensures that suppliers and clients are efficiently integrated while maintaining the quality of stock and minimising system wide costs. To do this effectively, you need a good team of people in your business, from the Logistics Manager overseeing the process to the people in the store moving the products. With the Distribution Modern Apprenticeship Programme, you can develop your staff and business.
Skills and Qualifications
In order to complete the Modern Apprenticeship, the Modern Apprentice must complete 120 credits composed of set unit standards. These cover various distribution skills and knowledge, foundation skills in literacy and self-development to make them well rounded employees and an asset to your business.
Learners achieve:
- National Certificate in Distribution Level 2
- National Certificate in Distribution Level 3
- Completion of Modern Apprenticeship Certificate

- Forklift operation
- Machine operation
- First Aid
- Storekeeping operations
- Loss prevention
- Inventory systems
- Stock control

Who is suitable:
The programme is open to employees from the ages of 16 to 21. A typical modern apprentice is keen to learn, enjoys putting theory into practice on the job and is eager to prove him/her self in your industry.
Modern apprentices are motivated and able young New Zealanders who want the chance to start a career in retail.
Older than 21?
There is some room for people older than 21 to become modern apprentices, so talk to your Retail Institute Training Adviser, who will be able to discuss this and other options with you.
