ACCREDITATION

In New Zealand, courses or qualifications are offered by a wide range of education providers. The New Zealand Qualifications Authority deals with the provision and quality of qualifications, including accreditation.

As an accredited body, the Retail Institute supplies the New Zealand Qualifications Authority with details of its quality management systems. Accreditation and Moderation Action Plans (AMAP) are part of these quality management systems.

AMAP

Accreditation and Moderation Action Plans (AMAPs) relate to industry- or sector-specific requirements for the accreditation of organisations to deliver programmes and/or assess against unit standards in the scope of the AMAP, and to the moderation process that accredited organisations will need to engage in.

Every unit standard registered on the National Qualifications Framework states the number of its applicable AMAP. The Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) provides details to education providers of the accreditation requirements for each unit standard and, to assessors, the moderation requirements to ensure assessment quality and consistency.

THE RETAIL INSTITUTE'S AMAP

The Retail Institute's moderation procedures are governed by Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) 0225.

The AMAP 0225 Version 2 was registered with the NZQA (New Zealand Qualifications Authority) in 2004 and has been reviewed twice since then.

Any concerns regarding the AMAP received by the Retail Institute are immediately addressed by the Quality Assurance Manager in consultation with NZQA.

HOW DOES A TRAINING PROVIDER GAIN ACCREDITATION?

NZQA is responsible for granting accreditation for unit standards. For NZQA to do this the application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the Standard Setting Body (SSB).

The Retail Institute is the SSB for approximately 150 unit standards on the NQF. If a provider wishes to gain accreditation for Retail Institute unit standards, their application needs to include a letter of recommendation from the Retail Institute. A letter of recommendation means that the provider has met the requirements of Retail Institute's industry- specific criteria.

If you wish to apply for accreditation for Retail Institute unit standards please complete the Retail Institute Accreditation Application form and send it to the Retail Institute, with the required evidence.
