ASSESSORS

BECOMING AN ASSESSOR FOR THE RETAIL INSTITUTE

If you currently work for an organisation that already works with, or is planning to work with, the Retail Institute you may want to become a registered assessor. This means you will be able to assess trainees working in your organisation.

All registered assessors need to hold Unit Standard 4098 and have qualifications and/or appropriate industry experience in the areas they wish to assess.

THE ASSESSOR'S SCOPE OF ACCREDITATION

The assessor's ‘scope of accreditation' is provided by the Retail Institute and is the list of unit standards they are permitted to assess and register credits for.

The Retail Institute informs the assessor of their scope of accreditation once they are registered.

On initial registration to the Retail Institute, the scope could be as small as one unit standard or could include many unit standards, at the Retail Institute's discretion. The scope can be expanded once the assessor has proven the quality of their assessments through the moderation process.

The assessor must check that their accreditation covers the unit standards they are planning to assess.

EXTENSION OF ACCREDITATION SCOPE

If the assessor wishes to extend their scope, they can apply for extra unit standards to be added.

If the assessor believes that they have the experience or qualifications necessary to assess further unit standardsthey should complete the Accreditation Scope Extension form.

The assessor will need to provide written evidence of the experience or qualifications relevant to the unit standards they wish to assess. The assessor's accreditation can be extended very quickly, provided adequate evidence is supplied.

If an assessor wants their accreditation extended to include units for which the Retail Institute is not the Standard Setting Body (SSB), their application should include the assessment material they plan to use.

If the Retail Institute has accreditation for unit standards of other SSBs it will carry out the same procedure as above. If the assessor wishes to have scope for unit standards from standard-setting bodies that the Retail Institute does not have accreditation for, the assessor should approach the SSB concerned directly.
