NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN RETAIL (LEVEL 3)
The National Certificate in Retail (Level 3) has been developed to prepare supervisors and assistant managers for senior store management positions. It is also designed for anyone who has completed the National Certificate in Retail (Level 2) and wants to step up to the next skill level.
The qualification is made up of four modules: Knowledge is Power, Store Performance, Staff Management, and Managing Stock.
Knowledge is Power: Knowledge is Power is about understanding your store, your customers, your products and legislation that applies to the sale of goods and services. This module covers:
- identifying a store’s target markets and marketing mix
- using consumer behaviour concepts
- enhancing product knowledge
- maintaining and complying with legislation applicable to the sale of goods and services.
Store Performance: Managing your store’s daily operation requires you to effectively manage your staff and your resources. This module covers:
- store performance measures
- assisting with staff and resource management
- reviewing and improving the effectiveness of loss prevention policies.
Staff Management: Staff management covers the fundamentals of effective teamwork.
This module covers:
- analysing the strengths and gaps of teams
- using techniques to coach and support teams
- understanding staff recruitment and appointment processes and any relevant legal and contractual requirements.
Managing stock: Managing stock effectively can positively impact on a store’s profitability.
This module covers:
- establishing and maintaining stock levels
- identifying preferred and alternative product suppliers
- creating and maintaining in-store displays
- preventing and managing stock damage and wastage.
How long should it take?
It is reasonable to expect people to complete the programme within 11 months.
