RETAIL MODERN APPRENTICESHIP
The apprenticeship programme is a government funded, work-based training programme for young people who want to have a career in retail.
How it works?
The Retail Modern Apprenticeship programme should take approximately three years to complete. In includes two National Certificates, three transferable (lifelong) skills modules. The ‘transferable skills' modules can be completed at any stage of the Modern Apprenticeship, but they probably fit best between the level 2 and 3 qualifications. Transferable skills relate to learning that will benefit the apprentice throughout their life, in both their work and private life.
Retail Institute provides the apprentice with all the training material they need to complete the programme. Apprentices are supported in their training by a coordinator who mentors and supports the apprentice through to completion. The coordinator maintains regular contact with both the store manager and the apprentice to answer any questions and make sure the training stays on track.
Learners achieve:
- Managing Yourself: This module will develop skills and techniques that will help the apprentice in their job and personal life, now and in the future.
- National Certificate in Retail Level 2: This qualification focuses on tasks common to all retailers. The qualification provides a broad overview of the retail environment.
- Managing Information: This module will develop skills and techniques that will help the apprentice manage information - where to find it and how to use it. This module also covers writing in plain English.
- National Certificate in Retail Level 3: This qualification is recognised as the supervisory level certificate for the retail industry.
- Understanding Your Business Environment: This module challenges trainees to look at some of the external issues that face owners or managers setting up or working in their business, and how they can affect employees. It is an interactive and fun module where trainees look beyond themselves in the workplace. Trainees will be asked to develop a portfolio which analyses environmental factors that can impact a business. It covers the local environment and
national and international business factors.
