SUCCESS IN THE WORKPLACE

Three workplace success stories

Check out our latest videos from employers who support their staff through workplace training.

David Adkins, National Retail Manager, OfficeMax

David AdkinsAll 90 staff from OfficeMax participate in basic retail and sales training within the first 6 months of their employment.

David himself is currently working towards the National Certificate in Retail (Level 4), the management level qualification.

David believes training helps create a point of difference. ‘Training is the only way to release our talent. Not only does it give us work skills, but often affects our lives in more personal ways, including building our confidence, and encouraging us to aim for further horizons.’

Andy McPherson, Central Region Retail Manager, Resene Paints Ltd

Andy McPherson‘Training is one of the most important aspects in our business. It enables us to perform at the highest of levels in our market' says Andy McPherson.

Product knowledge and good customer service are important to Resene, and training has helped them to improve both.

"Training has improved the overall level of the customer service side of our company and also given our staff a better understanding of what customer service is all about."

‘They also better understand their obligations to both their customers and the company they work for. ‘

Resene has had just under 200 staff either complete or currently working towards National Certificates in Retail, from Level 2 all the way to Level 4.

Riki Mitchell, General Manager, Snowcentre

Andy McPherson

Riki Michell believes qualifications help staff morale by recognising them for the career the have chosen. "The results have been amazing. The staff walk taller and believe in their own abilities. They are empowered to help grow the Snowcentre through their own skills." he says "Retail Institute has given retail workers a reason to be proud of their jobs and achievements. I would recommend employers become a part of it no matter how big or small your company is."
